Balance was created alongside my the artist-in-schools residency at Lavers Hill P-12 College. In talking with the art teacher from the school she told me about a small local beach called cannonball cove. The cove is only accessible at low tide and draws its name from the spherical stones that occasionally drop from the sandstone cliff as it slowly erodes. In visiting the site I felt very aware of the time pressure created by the tidal movements and the potential to get caught in the cove. I created this ephemeral work purposefully in the tidal zone to breakdown with the return of the lapping waves. The demise of the work was also a reminder of my own need to vacate the cove.
